Update on Brazil INMETRO certification rules for LED bulbs and tubes

On April 10, 2017, Brazil's INMETRO released a draft amendment to Regulation No. 86 on the INMETRO 144/2015 regulation for integrated LED lights, and solicited suggestions and opinions from the public on this regulation amendment (solicitation period of 15 days). This amendment will be officially released in the following months.

Regulation INMETRO 144/2015 has been updated as follows:

1. It is not allowed to use prototype samples (prototypes) for INMETRO certification of LED lamps;

Before the certification process begins, it is not allowed to collect samples for testing in advance;

3. For LED bulbs of the same model and specifications, independent sampling, testing, and reporting are required only for different importers. It is not allowed to use the same test data and report for different certifications (series division can refer to INMETRO 144/2015);

4. For LED bulbs that are undergoing INMETRO certification but have not yet obtained COC certification, they must comply with the amended law within 8 months from the date of publication of the law, and the starting date is the date of publication of the law;

5. Other provisions of Regulation INMETRO 144/2015 remain unchanged;

6. This regulation shall come into effect from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette of the Union.
