Introduction to GPSD General Product Safety Directive

What is GPSD?

GPSD: General Product Safety Directive, Directive No. 2001/95/EC

On July 22, 2006, the European Commission issued a list of standards for Directive 2001/95/EC (General Product Safety Directive), replacing all previously published official lists of standards. The relevant standards were developed by the European Organization for Standardization in accordance with the directives of the European Commission, covering products such as sports equipment, children's clothing, pacifiers, lighters, bicycles, furniture (including folding beds), etc.

According to the General Product Safety Directive, producers should ensure that the products placed on the market are safe. This regulation applies to all products sold in the market or otherwise supplied to consumers.

The relevant authorities or courts (if in dispute) must determine whether the product is safe based on the following factors:

-The characteristics of the product, including ingredients, packaging, as well as assembly, installation, and maintenance instructions;

-Appearance, including labels, any warnings or instructions regarding use, disposal, and any other instructions or information (such as manufacturer information);

-Consumer categories where the product may pose a danger (children or elderly)

Manufacturers must take responsibility to ensure the safety and reliability of products supplied and sold in the market, such as providing information and warnings. In addition, if the product may cause danger, manufacturers must take appropriate action, such as withdrawing the product from the market, giving consumers sufficient or effective warnings, or withdrawing the product from consumers

The GPSD directive standard list published by the European Union covers the following products:

1) Outdoor furniture: tables and chairs for camping, home use, and rental

2) Gymnastic equipment: parallel bars, horizontal bars, uneven bars, box vaulting, vault and Pommeled Horse, horizontal bar, balance beam, rings, trampoline, ribs, lattice ladder and climbing frame

3) Fixed training equipment: strength training equipment, treadmills, rowing exercise equipment, treadmills, stair climbers, wall climbers, elliptical machines, training bicycles with fixed wheels or without activity wheels

4) Furniture: Folding bed, family crib and cradle

5) Children's products: baby strollers, portable hammocks and support poles, indoor changing tables, baby carriers, water dispensers, bicycle chairs, windows and balcony doors with consumer installed child locking devices, and pull ropes and straps on children's clothing

6) Roller skates

7) Floating entertainment products for water and water use

8) Decorative oil lamp

9) Bicycles: Urban expansion and hiking, young adults, mountain and racing bikes, bike accessory racks

10) Paragliding equipment includes straps and emergency parachutes

11) Audio, sound and similar electronic devices

12) Internal blinds

13) Lighter
