Battery UN38.3 certification

Introduction to UN38.3

At present, airlines have made relevant testing regulations for rechargeable lithium batteries, including but not limited to mobile phone batteries, laptop batteries, walkie talkie batteries, camera batteries, remote control toy batteries, etc., which are transported separately or together with equipment in accordance with the International Air Transport Association's Dangerous Goods Regulations. The testing requirements for products containing lithium batteries are specified in Part 3, Clause 38.3 of the United Nations Manual of Tests and Standards for the Transport of Dangerous Goods (UN38.3 testing).

What are the products certified with UN38.3?

1. Various lead-acid batteries (such as lead-acid batteries for car starting, fixed lead-acid batteries, small valve regulated sealed lead-acid batteries, etc.)

2. Various power secondary batteries (such as power vehicle batteries, electric road vehicle batteries, electric tool batteries, hybrid vehicle batteries, etc.)

3. Various mobile phone batteries (such as lithium-ion batteries, lithium polymer batteries, nickel hydrogen batteries, etc.)

4. Various small secondary batteries (such as laptop batteries, digital camera batteries, camera batteries, various cylindrical batteries, wireless communication batteries, portable DVD batteries, CD and MP3 player batteries, etc.)

5. Various primary batteries (such as alkaline zinc manganese batteries, lithium manganese batteries)

What are the testing items for UN38.3?

1. High altitude simulation test
Under the conditions of pressure ≤ 11.6kPa and temperature 20 ± 5 ℃.
2. Thermal testing
Conduct high and low temperature impact tests at 75 ± 2 ℃ and -40 ± 2 ℃, with a storage time of ≥ 6 hours at the extreme temperature, a high and low temperature transition time of ≤ 30 minutes, and 10 impacts. Store at room temperature (20 ± 5 ℃) for 24 hours, with a total test time of at least one week
3 Vibration test
Complete one reciprocating logarithmic sweep sine vibration from 7Hz to 200Hz within 15 minutes, and 12 three-dimensional vibrations within 3 hours;
4 Impact Test
150g, 6ms or 50g, 11ms half sine impact, 3 times for each installation direction, a total of 18 times;
5 External Short Circuit Test
Short circuit under the condition of 55 ± 2 ℃ and external resistance<0.1 Ω, and the short circuit time lasts for 1 hour after the battery temperature returns to 55 ± 2 ℃.
6 Collision Test
A 9.1kg weight was dropped from a height of 61 ± 2.5cm onto a battery with a 15.8mm round rod, and the surface temperature of the battery was measured.
7 overcharge test
Under the conditions of twice the continuous charging current and twice the charging voltage, overcharge the battery for 24 hours.
8 Forced discharge test
The battery is connected in series with a 12V DC power supply for forced discharge with high discharge current.
