ErP Energy Efficiency Directive Certification

Introduction to the ErP Energy Efficiency Directive 2009/125/EC

Since November 20, 2009, the Eco Design Directive EuP has been replaced with the New Energy Related Products Directive (ErP) 2009/125/EC. The original Eco design directive for energy consuming products only covered energy consuming products such as microwave ovens, washing machines, or televisions. In addition to the products covered by the original EuP directive, the new ErP directive also includes products related to energy but not directly using energy, such as double glazed windows, faucets, and nozzles.

The European Commission defines energy related products as "any item that has an impact on energy consumption during use". Energy related products include all energy consuming products as well as energy-saving products, such as windows and some household appliances that require water (which can reduce water usage and thus reduce the energy required for water heating). Since November 20, 2010, all EU member states have implemented the ErP Directive. The European Commission has not yet released a product list based on the new directive, and the final text of the directive is still pending publication in the EU bulletin.

EU Energy Label

The design purpose of the EU energy label is to classify the energy efficiency level of a device and provide other useful information for consumers to distinguish and choose different types of electrical appliances. Most large household appliances, lighting packaging, and air conditioning systems (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) products must display the EU energy label when sold or rented; When applicable, energy labels should also be listed in the directory and website.
